This recommendation is special, as it concerns one of the most gifted and special people I have—and will—ever meet: Lotte van Lith. Lotte and I have a long and profound history, going back as far as 2010. In these years, our personal and academic interest in Personality development and giftedness fueled our many shared activities, which included, among others, a coaching company, various workshops and seminars, and some published work. Although Lotte now spearheads her own coaching company, I eagerly try to stay informed about her large number of groundbreaking activities.
Lotte’s unique Personality almost defies the idea of writing her a recommendation. This is, first, because recommendations traditionally comment on a person’s vocational life. But for Lotte there hardly is such a thing as ‘vocational life’. There is only Life itself, and it has to be lived intensely and meaningfully, regardless of any vocational settings or incentives. Hence, to describe Lotte’s work, her coaching and her research is to describe Lotte herself, her pervasive curiosity and inquisitiveness, her creativity and will to make a difference, and her authenticity and autonomy. Indeed, Lotte’s intrinsic motivation and Personality shine through in her every undertaking, and she will wither if they are quelled.
The second irony in writing Lotte a recommendation is that recommendations traditionally outline a specific personality profile with inherent strengths and weaknesses. But Lotte’s capacity of self-regulation and self-determination easily thwart such an effort. She is far too meta and too self-aware of her Personality and developmental path to be captured accurately by a narrow set of adjectives. It is no coincidence, then, that also in her work Personality development and giftedness take center stage. She embodies the very intellectuality, emotionality, imaginativeness, sensuality and drive that characterize giftedness. This makes Lotte a true polymath, able to excel in almost everything she sets her mind to, if necessary as an autodidact.
A static summary of this vortex of potential is bound to be inadequate. Suffice it to say that Lotte is a profoundly intelligent, deeply empathic and vastly complex person. She has radically transformed many people’s lives through her coaching, workshops and presentations, and deeply inspired many others. She has encountered an extensive array of institutional boundaries and always managed to come out stronger. Her interdisciplinary, innovative mindset is bound to instigate paradigm-changing contributions. These and various other qualities are recognized by many, as is evident from, for example, the sponsoring she received from the Dutch Mensa foundation to further her studies and disseminate her ideas on personality development at the International Dabrowski Congress (2014).
All in all, I wholeheartedly believe Lotte van Lith will help change this world for the better.
